Ten years ago I came across a band named Indestructible Huxtables by way of the original MP3.com. Since I was really into supporting DIY bands, I decided to show my support and buy their CD. At the time I was into a lot of Ska-Punk and Ska-Core, like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Reel Big Fish, Home Grown, and Kemuri. Actually, I still am (and you can hear those bands and more on my Live365.com station, RadioDetox). But I digress…

The guys in Indestructible Huxtables are were a bunch of high school kids from Houston who made a kick-ass Ska-Punk album. I’m not kidding when I say this, either. It’s in my top 10 best Ska-Punk albums that I own, and if you’re a fan of this genre I think you’ll agree. OK, OK, I realize that I’m saying too much. Here, listen and decide for yourself:

Johnsin
Sac Lunch
I Don’t Understand
Frappé
Pol Pot
1.21 Gigawatts [Instrumental]
Chameleon
Mambo King
Sonic Therapy
Bustaphunk [House of Pain covers]
Hexed
Please Don’t Go
Chia Pet [Acoustic; Comedy]

I hope you enjoy it, but let me know what you think by submitting your rating at the top or posting a comment below. Thanks!

I don’t know why these guys popped into my head recently, but I was just wondering if they were still googleable.

I also found them through the long lost mp3.com. Loved “Chameleon” and “Bustaphunk”, and “Chia Pet” got stuck in my head many, many times.

    Thanks for sharing this.

No problem. Thanks for the comment and letting me know you also found them on the original mp3.com. I really enjoyed discovering bands on there, but I guess there are sites like Bandcamp.com for that now.

This is awesome! I played trombone in the Huxtables!! Miss the band, but love that IH Lives on! Keep listening.

    • Alistair Barnett says:

How cool of you to check out the post and let us know you were in the band. Was there just the one album or did IH do more?

      • C Wallner says:

Reunion! (do it) I’m their biggest fan who never saw a show. Married the trumpet player.

      • Daniel says:

Sadly no, there was just the one album. We did not have a label, and we barely managed to scape together enough cash to get about 3 days at Sugar Hill Studio’s in Houston, TX. We laid down rhythm and guitars on day 1, horns on day 2, and vocals on day 3. Was pretty amazed that we were able to do it in that amount of time.

        • Alistair Barnett says:

Wow, you guys did that in only 3 days? Impressive! I just gave the entire album a listen after reading your comment and was amazed at how in sync a lot of the vocals + music are.

I know this sounds incredible, but I remember them well. I actually heard them live at a place called Fitzgeralds(if memory is good). They opened for another band and ymthe house went wild when they played.

  4. Geoff says:

I was the trumpet player in IH. We did not have any other album, unfortunately we stopped playing together after high school. Its crazy to think there are people out there who still remember us, or might even still give us a listen. We had a blast making the music and performing, thanks for all the kind words. If you want an original shrink wrapped cd Alistair, email me your address and I’ll send you one. Eyeh8yahew at yahoo dot com.

    • Alistair Barnett says:

Hey Geoff, thanks for joining in. I’m happy to promote IH on my blog and station, so no problem there. As for getting a CD, that’s so awesome of you to offer! (Can’t seem to find the CD I bought 10+ years ago.) I’ll send you an email soon with my address.

I found “Chia Pet” when I was in college at Washington State in the Napster days. I used to share it with everyone. It’s still on my most frequently listened playlist. I’m glad you guys put the money together for the album!

  5. Christie Ombrog says:

I was never into this kind of music until one of the saxophone player gave me a CD as a gift. It was pretty good I thought… I most especially love “Chia Pet.” With this gift, it led me to marrying the sax player, Chris Ombrog! (The music wasn’t the only reason why I married him). To this day, he still has his saxophone. I think IH should have a reunion so I can finally listen to them live.

  6. Nick says:

Yo I use to play bass in this band and did vocals on bustaphunk. The core members and I went on to play in a band in college called Suburban Youth Event. Some indie rock fusion thing. I have been playing in punk and thrash bands ever since IH split up. Anyways I was randomly giving this record a listen and then googled Indestructible Huxtables just to see what was out there. Good times for sure. This was so long ago and we really havent even kept in touch. im down for a reunion.

  7. Rodrigo says:

I used to hear IH when I was in middle school. My brother was at Taylor High School while they were all playing.

I used to listen to that album on repeat back then and have been sad that I didn’t have a way to get the music back…We lost the CD.

Anyway, I’m glad you posted this album, my brother, sister, and I have been listening to it all day. You guys do still have fans believe it or not. I haven’t heard this album since I was 15 and I’m still impressed by how good it is!

    • Truffle Shuffle says:

This music brings me back to High School immediately. I used to blare this album everywhere I went when I was 16. I remember seeing them play at fitzgerald’s. I too lost the CD somewhere in the haze of college. I thank your brother for pointing me to this website. Oh, the memories….great music!

  8. Tanner says:

How can I download this.. these guys were my buddies and I want this for my collection

    • Alistair Barnett says:

You’re able to download each MP3 by right-clicking the song title and selecting “Save Link As…” (or similar).
