I’m listening to the full Stuck on Nothing album thanks to Grooveshark right now, but I don’t think there’s any song on there that will be as good as the one I’d like to feature in this post, “Hope Child”. It surprises me that two completely different songs can be on the same album (“Bang [...] Read More »
When there were the wars between Rhapsody and the Yahoo! Music service, I switched to Yahoo! and loved it so much more. There was better selection, the interface was cleaner and easier to use, and the ability to create fine-tuned playlists was outstanding. When the Yahoo! Music service decided to shut its doors, an official [...] Read More »
If you’ve heard French punk before and think this is going to be the same, think again. Granted I haven’t actually translated the lyrics, but Guerilla Poubelle and Charly Fiasco do it with such sneer and authority that it’s how punk should be — loud, crunchy guitars and in-your-face vocals. Cool stuff. Guerilla Poubelle vs [...] Read More »
After hearing the Do You Remember When Punk Rock Was for Fun? compilation on Bandcamp released by Big Wheel Records, there were some bands that I wanted to hear more of — Brixton Robbers was one of them, and here is my favorite track of theirs by far. If you like tongue-in-cheek lyrics with awesome [...] Read More »
I came across Big Wheel Records when I was searching for “punk” on Bandcamp. I’m glad I did, since the Do You Remember When Punk Rock Was for Fun? has a bunch of good tracks. Here are my picks… Permanent Bastards – Those Forgotten Pioneers The Snips – Tired Tires Bon Vivant – La 236
Below are some of my song picks from the cover band (or most of the time), Jingle Punx. Enjoy! Jingle Punx – Beer Run Jingle Punx – Drink It Up Men Jingle Punx – Peter Cottontail Jingle Punx – Scooby Doo
It’s been way too long since I posted something, I know. Recently I came across “Angela Marie” by The Cheaters when listening to 500 Miles to Memphis radio on Pandora. Speaking of which, that band’s song “The Regret” is another amazing one — which I’ll write a post about soon. Anyway, usually I don’t like [...] Read More »
I’m always impressed by The O.C. Mix CDs. They clearly have some very “in-the-know” people working there. Listening to this covers compilation of songs played from the show is no exception, as there are many standout tracks. Just to name a few, Goldspot (Modest Mouse’s “Float On”), Lady Sovereign (surprisingly listenable version of Sex Pistols’ [...] Read More »
I wasn’t sure what was going on for the first six tracks since the name of the album contains “Covers” but I decided to keep listening. It’s a good thing I did, since starting with the seventh track the covers kick in. I’ve always loved “Second Hand News” by Fleetwood Mac, and Mates of State [...] Read More »
This group reminds me of Langhorne Slim, Violent Femmes, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! all rolled into one. If you like some or all of those artists, I recommend that you check these guys out. You won’t be disappointed.
